A New Redefined Generation

November 4th, 2008, history was made in the United States of America. The effect of that history was felt globally on the eve of the new President-Elect Barack Obama.

There was a call for change, a type of change that has been echoing at every global citizen’s soul for the last 100+ years. The type of change that we all at some time in our lives dreamed of, hoped for, and prayed for. That change was answered, and if there is anyone out there that still doubts this change, just look into the eyes of those that have believed that our time ahead needs to be different; and felt that now their voice can make that difference.

As Oprah said, “There has been a shift in our conscientiousness.” For this to happen at a global scale is truly a defining moment in each and every one of our lives. There has never been a voice that spread like a moth to a flame on social responsibility that every citizen must have in order to make change happen in such a profound way, as Obama has done and delivered through his speeches to the nation. The power within lies in all of us, and in the past we all have been guilty for not taking that power seriously to make change happen in our communities.

It’s been long overdue, and on November 4th, a date that everyone will remember forever, defined our moment in history for that change.

Working men and women, young and old, who built our nation, believed that the lives of their children ahead in the society and nation they live in needs to change for the better. You don’t have to be American to feel this change stirring in your soul. You just need to be human, and demand for a better nation, government of the people, by the people and for the people. But no one put these words together better than Obama in his acceptance speech for President-Elect.

No one understands and desired change more than the immigrants that Obama connected with in the United States and globally. If it weren’t for the Spanish vote, Obama would not have been elected. The Spanish immigration growth in the US is 50% annually. Up north in Canada, the nation is also facing the same change on immigration, as South Asians now the largest ethnic group in Canada with a capped 13% growth rate annually will be facing economic challenges in the years to come if the government does not make changes to increase the number of immigrants coming into the country. Of the current 220,000 immigrants coming into Canada every year, 76% of those immigrants are of South Asian origin.

The challenge ahead for all of us is going to be tough. Obama’s victory is not the end of our journey – it is the beginning. It all starts with you and every citizen of our nation to make this change happen. Our leaders need to be strong to make sure we as a nation do not steer off track, and forget the values and responsibilities we believe in so dearly.

This is truly a magical moment that will shape our lives, our children lives and generations ahead to stand up and believe in a better world, government and planet. To believe that dreams do come true if we all stick together and petty differences only divide us apart from becoming one with our brothers and sisters. The task ahead is not easy and we all will be challenged and tested in what be believe in now. There will be times it gets dark when you are alone, but together as one nation, we can overcome the darkness and obstacles in our paths ahead.

The racial barriers have been broken and a new dawn is upon us to change what may have seemed impossible to the possible. The “I Believe,” factor is what has happened to us all, and now trying to go back to that old person you once were is never going to happen. There is a new feeling that has laid dormant within us, waiting for that leadership and hope. Now it has been awoken by the echoes of Obama’s voice. Life will never be the same as the pulse of our nation now beats as one.
