The Pursuit of Hope!
The Pursuit of Hope! – People at times have asked me how I do what I do? I have been asked this question for years. My fellow collegaues in the media world were skeptic – because of the way – the media agencies work, if I would be able to succeed. What they didn’t know that I knew – was another tradition to media, a tradition that tracks back from the days of first immigration to our nation, and how Canada started building this great country by those people who came here with a dream of a better life, heart full of hope and opportunity.
The idea is simple, a tradition for decades that we all have a stake in this country, in one another, and that what binds us together is greater than what drives us apart, and if enough people believe in this tradition, the truth, the dream, the hope, and act on it, then we might not solve every problem, but we can all come together on common ground, to make change happen in a meaningful way.
I discovered a condition that I had in me, a few years ago. Call it my flaw, my imprefection, but it was what it was, my restless mind; which had an inability to appreciate, no matter how well things were going, God given blessings in front of you. I have heard people say that men are trying to live up to their father’s expectations or make up for their father’s mistakes, I guess that explains my particular mindset better than anything else.
In any event, my restless mind challenged me at every step of what people called my success. I never saw myself as successful, because the only fight that I have with anyone was all inside of me, in my mind, within myself. Trying to make all the pain I felt growing up, and from people all around me, and those I don’t even know, who didn’t have a voice, a source of inspiration – platform for hope! When I spoke with people and families about change and hope within their life and culture. They would sign and make a comment, ‘Perhaps in another lifetime.’ Those comments made me more restless to come up with a solution.
The solution was and still is connecting people through South Asian Life. The women, the men, our youth, and families. We are all connected by layers of common threads that bind us together. I have figured out a way through our website, our editorials, and community involvement of South Asian Life to connect with the South Asian market.
On June 26th, we won the 2009 Online CEMA Award for ‘Inspiring editorial features on young South Asian women.‘ Our content is generating buzz, and our traffic to our site is growing every month.
We just relaunched a new design of our site, so let me know your thoughts and feedback by emailing us at [email protected].
